Garment industry has opened new doors for employment: PM
Our Islam Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the garment industry has opened new doors for employment.
He said, we earn foreign exchange by exporting specially made garment industry abroad. And we have employment opportunities for many people. This garment industry opens new doors for employment especially for girls.
He said these things at the National Textile Day celebration and inauguration of 6 textile educational institutes on Tuesday (February 14) morning. He joined the Bangabandhu International Conference Center virtually from Ganobhaban.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that women come from remote areas of the village to work in the garment sector. As a result, they are making a special contribution to the rural economy. Each family is also gaining financial capability. So we need to look at this industry.
The Prime Minister said that the foreign exchange we earn is mainly through the export of ready-made garments. In 2022, Bangladesh exported readymade garments worth USD 45.70 billion. So in that respect I would say that it is making a great contribution to our economy.
He said, our traditions were disappearing one by one. We are now trying to restart them. Due to the initiative of the government, it has been possible to bring back the lost tradition of muslin. Now through research efforts are being made to bring it within the purchasing power of common people.
Sheikh Hasina said, those who work in garments have to find new markets and produce new products. Different countries use different types of clothing. We can find that new market. Some have already been found.
