Earthquake kills 25 thousand in Turkey and Syria
Our Islam Desk: The death toll in the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 25,000. Among them, the bodies of 21 thousand 848 people have been recovered in Turkey. And 3 thousand 553 in Syria.
Thousands of people are still believed to be trapped under the rubble. The smell of corpses is now spreading in the air of the earthquake-ravaged area.
Despite the odds, the rescue operation continues. However, the rescue workers do not see the hope of rescuing anyone alive in the bone-chilling cold. They say, if anyone is rescued alive now, it will be a ‘miracle’.
However, six days after the earthquake struck, life is still alive under the rubble. According to Al Jazeera’s report, a total of 9 people were rescued alive on Saturday (February 11). A family of five was rescued together 129 hours after the last earthquake.
Rescue workers pull a family out of the rubble of a building in Nurdag, Gaziantep province, Turkey. At this time, the whole area became resounding with the sound of ‘Allahu Akbar’. According to reports, rescuers first pulled out the mother and her daughter. Then the father and their two other children were rescued one by one.
Earlier, two women were rescued alive from the rubble of Kahramanmaras city in Turkey. The two women were trapped in the rubble for 122 hours after the deadliest earthquake in two decades, authorities said.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has said that 5.3 million people are at risk of becoming refugees in Syria due to the earthquake. In addition, about 9 lakh people in the two countries need food assistance on an urgent basis. In addition to the government, various countries and organizations continue to provide emergency relief assistance to the affected areas of Turkey.
The Syrian part is not getting much attention. However, President Bashar al-Assad’s government has belatedly allowed humanitarian aid to enter rebel-held areas. Relief trucks have already started entering these areas.
