Aftershocks have occurred in Turkey about 2,000 times

Our Islam Desk: At least 1,891 aftershocks were felt after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Turkey. Of these, 1604 aftershocks of various magnitudes were recorded in the Kahra-Man-Maras area alone.

Turkey’s Disaster Management Authority confirmed this information. It has been hinted that there may be more aftershocks in the next one month. News from The Guardian.

According to the report, aftershocks were felt 100 times in the first few hours of the earthquake. However, the extent of damage caused by these aftershocks could not be ascertained.

The number and magnitude of aftershocks decreases with distance from the epicenter. However, aftershocks greater than magnitude 5 or 6 may still occur. This may result in further damage to buildings and infrastructure damaged by the main earthquake. Rescue operations and new threats to those trapped in the rubble may emerge.

Last Monday (February 6th) a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook the border area between Turkey and Syria. A few hours later, another 7.5-magnitude earthquake collapsed several other buildings. But since then frequent tremors are felt in those areas.

Experts say that the maximum magnitude of the earthquakes after the main tremor was six. After the main earthquake, the aftershocks add to the horror and destruction. Even in the next month, these affected areas are at risk of small and large aftershocks.

It should be noted that the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 24,000. 20 thousand 665 people were killed in Turkey alone. Half a million people were injured.
