The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued an arrest warrant against the ousted Prime Minister of Pakistan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. Besides, this warrant has also been issued against two other leaders of Imran’s party, Asad Omar and Fawad Chowdhury. The warrant was issued against them on charges of contempt of court. But it is bailable, the report said.

According to Geo News, a four-member bench of the ECP issued the warrant on Tuesday (January 10). ECP member Nisar Durrani heard the case.

According to the report, in August 2022, the ECP sent contempt notices against these PTI leaders for insulting the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner in various meetings, press conferences and media interviews.

At the time, the notice alleged, PTI leaders had made disrespectful, incoherent and insulting remarks against the ECP on various occasions.

The ECP bench rejected the PTI leaders’ plea for exemption during a hearing on Tuesday. The next date of hearing has been fixed on January 17. Three PTI leaders have been ordered to appear on that day.
