Concerns are growing over the attacks in Nigeria. The latest kidnapping happened in the month before the presidential election. Security is the main issue in this election campaign to be held in February this year.
According to some reports, several gunmen entered the railway station with AK-47 rifles and opened fire last Saturday (January 7) afternoon. They then grabbed the passengers and workers and took them to the nearby forest.

Those who managed to escape were shot dead, witnesses said. A woman managed to escape with her baby to a nearby area where she was rescued.
A local resident told Vanguard that the abductors released two more children. Kidnapping for ransom and attacks on communities by politically motivated gunmen have increased in Nigeria in recent years.

A major rail service linking the capital Abuja with northern Kaduna was launched in December. The service comes nine months after a gun attack on a train line killed at least nine passengers. Several others were taken hostage in the attack and at least one was released in October.
