The High Court has summoned 21 lawyers including the editor of the District Lawyers’ Association on charges of obstructing the proceedings by using obscene and ugly slogans against Brahmanbaria District Judge Sharmin Nigar. They have been asked to appear in court on January 23 to explain the matter. A dual High Court bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Raziq Al Jalil gave this order on Tuesday on its own initiative. Besides, the court has issued a contempt of court rule against the concerned lawyers. Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy confirmed the court order.
Earlier, on January 5, the High Court summoned the bar president and three lawyers on charges of discourteous behavior with Judge (District and Sessions Judge) Mohammad Farooq of Brahmanbaria Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-1. They have been asked to appear in court on January 17 and give an explanation.
Last January 5 and 8 during the court session, some lawyers raised obscene and ugly slogans against District Judge Sharmin Nigar of Brahmanbaria. A letter was sent to the Registrar General of the Supreme Court seeking redress stating that the proceedings had been disrupted. The matter was then presented to the Chief Justice by the Registrar General. The Chief Justice referred the matter to the concerned bench of the High Court for disposal. After this, the High Court ordered to summon 21 lawyers.
